Emptiness

The little kiddo and I went to SM Fairview to get groceries but before that, we walked and around the mall for window shopping. I felt sleepy at late afternoon when I decided to have coffee. Starbucks is out of the question since it's too experience, so I tried Oregano cafe. I had cafe mocha that they and at 45 pesos, it taste good. Location: SM Fairview. Picture taken: {12.20.2010}.

Busy friends

It's only a few days before the year ends and I remembered that I haven't been to the movie house for quite awhile. Saving money is the main reason why I didn't hang out in the mall nowadays, another is my friends whom I used to go out with are all busy with work. I tried to contact them a few days ago, to have a get-together lunch or dinner maybe and watch one of those kick-ass high-tech movies with those flying cars and radar detectors, but still the holidays made everybody more busier than ever. I hope we can go out early next year and celebrate life and be Thankful for giving us another year ahead.

WORD of the day

haptic \HAP-tik\, adjective:

1. Relating to the sense of touch; tactile.

noun:
1. The science that deals with the sense of touch.
Why do people want haptic augmented reality? So a mother-to-be can touch her unborn child in the womb.
-- Bruce Sterling, "Beyond the beyond: Augmented Reality: Haptic Augmented Reality", Wired, May 2010
Loats would hear her get up at night, making her haptic way through the dark rooms, peering through the windows into the night for the telltale lanterns of the Americans.
-- Annie Proulx, Accordion Crimes

Haptic derives from the Greek haptikos, "to grasp."

Missing the Parents

My parents went to Dubai to be with my two sisters for Christmas and I admit I missed them. Because there's this one time, I was at my parent's room watching TV and they were not there. I really love the home theater system in the master bedroom. I'm still in the process of pursuing them to get theater seats to go with the system, and not to mention the popcorn maker too! haha! Anyway, they're going to come home in a few days and we are all excited to spend the New Year with them!

WORD of the day

rococo \roh-kuh-KOH\, adjective:

1. Ornate or florid in speech, writing, or general style.
2. Pertaining to a style of painting developed simultaneously with the rococo in architecture and decoration, characterized chiefly by smallness of scale, delicacy of color, freedom of brushwork, and the selection of playful subjects as thematic material.

noun:
1. A style of architecture and decoration, originating in France about 1720, evolved from Baroque types and distinguished by its elegant refinement in using different materials for a delicate overall effect and by its ornament of shellwork, foliage, etc.

adjective:
1. In the manner of, or suggested by rococo architecture, decoration, or music or the general atmosphere and spirit of the rococo.
Whereas the author's early works, like "Dead Babies" and "The Rachel Papers," were animated by a satiric gift for social observation and a deliciously black wit, this novel tackles the same themes - sex and identity and coming of age - with weary determination, and lacquers them all with pompous, inanely rococo meditations about the nature of art and truth.
-- Michiko Kakutani, "The Sexual Revolution Dissected", New York Times, May 2010
"Is this some sort of grandiose and rococo midlife crisis? Are you that afraid of getting old? Aging is the most natural thing in the world." He snorted.
-- Tom Robbins, Jitterbug perfume

Rococo originates as a humorous alteration of the French rocaille, "shellwork, pebble-work", refering to the excessive use of shell designs in the style of various French monarchs.

Handy-man

My dad installed the water pumps at Fort Wilhelmina in Cavite where my BIL's rest house is location. Now the water there is running smoothly with any problem. And now I think my dad also installed an engine driven pumps from the WET Centrum in Las Pinas, where BIL's family business resides. I think my dad should be building maintenance guy at WET Centrum when he retires. His skills will definitely be in good use there. I wish I can be like him, but I'm handy-man hahaha!

Be safe

I noticed in the movies, that they advised their kids to carry pepper sprays for self defense and protection. It's like a typical self-defense tool most of us hardly have right. So it got me thinking that I want to carry a piece of equipment that will help me in times of trouble or probably can save someone's life, we'll never know right. So I thought I need more than a pepper spray. I think I want something powerful than that and compact at the same time. Not to mention, it should be easy to use. So I thought I'd get a stun baton. It's compact and will surely fit inside my backpack or even my purse. I even browsed the Internet on how to use a stun baton and I found a good site for that.

Internet is really a must for me because I wouldn't know these things right. It helped me in so many ways--cooking, house repairs, news and now self-defense. Kids today are lucky. They can get more information and be aware at the same time. And if you'll ask me, I think everyone should be cautious and be educated. Knowing is always the best and prevention is the key. Be safe to all.

Emptiness

Ever since we moved to Quezon City, I'm having a hard time keeping my jogging routine on track. Simple because I don't have a place to jog here. Unlike in Bulacan, I can go to the nearby memorial and enjoy the fresh air and an empty path to jog on.

Party on the 18th

It's just a few days left before our account's EOL party. We agreed to have a hard copy of the songs that we're suppose to play on that day and print some more for our friends who will jam with us. And so I was assigned to do the tasks. I'm still collating the songs and tried already tried to play them with my classical guitar if the chords are correct. What I'm worried about now is that I don't have any inkjet printers. I know it's gonna be expensive if I'll have a 20 page printed out in the Internet shop. Good thing, one of the managers arrived and we can have these printed out for free in the office. So EOL party here we come!

All I want Christmas is...

If someone ask me what I want for Christmas, I would say a bag of groceries or a nice oven for my kitchen. But personally, I really wanted to have the new iTouch (yeah with the camera!) and a very sleek and high-tech cell phones. I don't have any particular model in my mind right now. Anything would do as long as it's touch screen, with wifi, great camera, awesome player--and all that jazz. You know how cell phones are made now. It's like "everything-in-it" gadget. So maybe someone might be reading this post and decided to buy me one! Santa Claus? hahaha!

WORD of the day

proliferate \pruh-LIF-uh-reyt\, verb:

2. Biology. To grow or produce by multiplication of parts, as in budding or cell division, or by procreation.

-- Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow
During the 1990s, armed escort vehicles began to proliferate in Lima and cars ceased stopping at red traffic lights. Professional companies fitted more and more electric fences round high- and middle income settlements.
-- Alan Gilbert, The mega-city in Latin America

Proliferate is a back-formation from the biology term proliferation, circa 1873.

Medical services

Wouldn't it be swell if we have some kind of Medicare part D plan services here in the country. I read in some countries that they have Social Security Disability for people with, of couse disability. These kind of services is popular in the first world countries and it's sad that it's fully promoted here in some parts of Asia. That's why I'm very proud of the volunteers who still push medical services even if it's free. I guess we're still lucky.

Booth 4026 {WABSHAQ} @ World Bazaar Festival

World Bazaar Festival is indeed a great place to buy stuff for the Holiday season. I saw a lot of nice gift ideas with awesome discounts. And what I was impress was the food section of the place. Organizers maintained cleanliness--which is important of course. Food served hot off the grill and he refreshments were served refreshingly cold. I think they were using stainless steel drums for the drinks to stay cold. At the end of the day, I end up buying more food rather than gifts for my family hahaha...

Don't forget to visit us at BOOTH 4026 - WABSHAQ! See you there!

WORD of the day

heliolatry \hee-lee-OL-uh-tree\, noun:

Worship of the sun.
I am certain that if our preparations for greeting the returning sun were seen by other people, either civilised or savage, we would be thought disciples of heliolatry.
-- Frederick Albert Cook, Through the first Antarctic night
Tourists were known for their heliolatry, excessive drinking, and promiscuity; their prearranged cultural excursions were notoriously shallow and contrived.
-- Sasha D. Pack, Tourism and dictatorship: Europe's peaceful invasion of Franco's Spain

Heliolatry stems from the Greek helio-, "sun," and -latry, "worship."

Everything's going wireless

Have you heard of a wireless home theatre system? All I know is the new home theatre system but it's just recent that I heard it's already wireless. Technology is definitely upgrading and before we know it, everything's going wireless already! woah! Now that's something to expect in the future. But before that, I think I'll settle for the basic home theatre system for now.
